Bangkok: Bhumjaithai Party spokesperson has responded to criticism from the Pheu Thai Party, asserting that the recently signed Joint Declaration will not influence US tariffs and advising patience from the opposition.
According to Thai News Agency, the spokesperson emphasized the importance of ongoing negotiations led by the Economic Minister and highlighted the Prime Minister’s commitment to national sovereignty, noting that his efforts over the past month and a half have already shown positive results.
Ms. Nan Bunthida Somchai, the spokesperson for the Bhumjaithai Party, addressed concerns raised by the Pheu Thai Party regarding Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s handling of US tax issues. She dismissed accusations of mismanagement and urged the opposition to focus on constructive scrutiny rather than seeking revenge. Ms. Somchai emphasized the Prime Minister’s dedication to safeguarding Thailand’s sovereignty and acknowledged his role in bilateral talks with Cambodia.
Ms. Somchai criticized the opposition’s quick reactions to news stories, cautioning against escalating tensions. She stressed the importance of understanding the Prime Minister’s broader objectives, which include the welfare of frontline soldiers and the country’s economic stability. She also addressed claims that the Prime Minister’s recent statements showed a lack of diplomatic acumen, urging consideration of the broader political context.
In response to Pheu Thai’s assertion that economic concerns should align with sovereignty, Ms. Somchai highlighted ongoing trade negotiations led by Commerce Minister Ms. Suphajee Suthumpun. She reassured that efforts extend beyond US tariffs to include discussions with other countries. Ms. Somchai expressed confidence in the continuation of economic progress despite global challenges and stated that the Joint Declaration’s focus on military and border issues does not impede trade and economic activities.
