Bangkok: Bhumtham Wechayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, expressed his hopes for Prime Minister Nu to lead the nation away from its entrenched political frameworks. Bhumtham emphasized that the issues surrounding Khao Kradong and Senate collusion were of national importance, not personal vendettas. He refrained from criticizing the composition of Anutin’s cabinet, affirming that Ingkorn remains Pheu Thai’s leader. He expressed confidence that the party’s over 100 MPs would remain steadfast in their roles, despite past weaknesses needing improvement.
According to Thai News Agency, Bhumtham, acting on behalf of the Prime Minister, conveyed his message to the new Interior Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul. He underscored the responsibility of the new government to transition the nation into a democratic process, free from problematic frameworks. Bhumtham urged Prime Minister Nu to address any unresolved issues and continue to uphold his reputation as a leader.
When questioned about his future role, Bhumtham indicated his intent to return to party work, highlighting the fluid nature of politics. He mentioned that discussions about Pheu Thai’s future role, whether as opposition or in preparation for the next election, would likely occur in an upcoming party meeting. He reassured that Pheu Thai remains strong with significant party capital and numerous MPs connected to local communities.
Bhumtham affirmed that Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra remains committed to Pheu Thai, ready to lead the party without holding any official position. He encouraged party members to remain confident in her dedication to the nation. Bhumtham dismissed concerns about an outflow of MPs from Pheu Thai, expressing confidence in the party’s enduring strength and connection to its roots.
Addressing legal challenges, Bhumtham clarified that Pheu Thai’s petition regarding Mr. Anutin and Mr. Natthaphong’s MP status was based on regulatory appropriateness, not a withdrawal of the case. He stressed the importance of monitoring governmental performance and upholding democratic principles, whether as part of the government or the opposition.
