Bangkok: "Buriram Marathon 2027" has announced its ambition to become a major destination for runners worldwide, aiming to establish itself as a premier marathon destination in Asia. The event will transform into a Night Running Festival, promising a captivating experience with full lighting, sound, and entertainment along the route, drawing over 100,000 runners and spectators.
According to Thai News Agency, government and private sector partners have jointly announced the organization of the 'Buriram Marathon 2027 Presented by Chang Natural Mineral Water,' under the concept of 'A Runner's Paradise.' The event will be held to world-class standards as a World Athletics Road Race, enabling runners to use their times to qualify for prestigious running events globally. Scheduled for the evening of Saturday, January 23, 2027, under the theme "Beat the Night, Run the Light," the race will start at the 'Chang International Circuit' and finish at the 'Chang Arena' football stadium. Participants can choose from four distances: Marathon (42.195 km), Half Marathon (21.1 km), Mini Marathon (10 km), and Fun Run (4.554 km).
Mr. Surasak Panjaroenvorakul, Minister of Tourism and Sports, emphasized that the Buriram Marathon has become a successful model of mass participation, integrating sports, tourism, and the economy. Over the past decade, it has generated more than 5.2 billion baht in economic revenue and distributed income within the community. The Ministry is committed to promoting Thailand as a leading sports tourism destination in Asia.
Police General Chakthip Chaijinda, President of the Athletics Association of Thailand under the Royal Patronage, highlighted that the "Buriram Marathon" elevates competition standards to a world-class level, serving as a platform for developing road and long-distance runners while promoting tourism and the economy. The Association supports the event in line with His Majesty the King's policy of encouraging exercise and drug avoidance.
Mr. Piya Pijanan, Governor of Buriram Province, stated the marathon's success is due to the collective efforts of the province, including supporters, volunteers, and citizens who host the event along the route. The province aims to enhance its standards to accommodate the growing number of tourists and runners from around the world.
Mr. Surapol Uthinthu, Executive of Chang Natural Mineral Water, expressed pride in the marathon's growth and commitment to elevate the event through entertainment and environmental conservation efforts, contributing to a 'Green Marathon' standard.
Mr. Chotichanok Chidchob, Race Director, emphasized the importance of continuous development under the "Buriram Standard," aiming to create opportunities for Thai runners on the global stage and preparing for a Night Running Festival in 2027.
Mr. Newin Chidchob, Chairman of Chang International Circuit, reiterated the marathon's goal of self-improvement to become a destination for runners worldwide, announcing the "Buriram Marathon 2028" for January 22, 2028.
Special privileges and prizes were announced, including Limited Edition BRM Gold Cards, shirts, and other prizes, along with real-time photo services and incentives for achieving personal bests. Additionally, top Thai runners will receive support to compete in the Tokyo Marathon 2028.
The press conference featured the official launch of the 'Buriram Marathon 2027' and a presentation of support funds to the Athletics Association of Thailand and Buriram Hospital. The "Beat the Night, Run the Light" theme promises a vibrant neon-lit experience, enhancing the overall race atmosphere.
