Bangkok: The Cabinet has announced the approval of a special leave policy allowing civil servants and government officials to participate in ordination and religious practices dedicated to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. This leave will not be counted against their regular leave days, offering a unique opportunity for government employees to engage in merit-making activities.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ploytalay Laksmisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the Cabinet's resolution permits all types of civil servants, permanent and temporary employees of government agencies and state enterprises, to take part in a special ordination and meditation program. This program, dedicated to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, will take place in the Buddhist holy land of India and Nepal from August 7-19, 2026.
The program targets a diverse group of participants, including 220 people spanning different categories: 80 men for ordination, 80 women for ordination as nuns, 40 individuals practicing Dharma, and 20 volunteers from the project committee. This initiative allows participants to study Buddhist teachings and express gratitude for His Majesty's benevolence through merit-making acts.
Participants will have the opportunity to demonstrate their loyalty and gratitude by performing good deeds and practicing Dharma. The government has encouraged all eligible individuals to participate in these activities, granting them special privileges to attend the ordination ceremony without impacting their leave balances. Participants will also continue to receive their regular salaries during this period.
