Bangkok: The Prime Minister has directed the Ministry of Finance to reassess the criteria for the welfare card program, with the proposal expected to be resubmitted for Cabinet approval next week.
According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister issued this directive during a cabinet meeting, emphasizing that the government would not interfere with ongoing investigations into alleged corruption in local government civil service examinations. These investigations are being conducted under legal procedures to ensure transparency and fairness.
Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, following the Cabinet meeting, addressed the forthcoming Central Committee for Local Government Employee Examinations meeting on July 23rd. The meeting will discuss corruption allegations in local government examinations, with the process managed through established procedures, free from political interference.
Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary-General of the Council of State, Mr. Pakorn Nilapraphan, has been tasked with reviewing the legal aspects surrounding the cancellation or revocation of inclusion, as there are differing opinions on the matter.
The corruption scheme involves at least three main perpetrators, currently under investigation by the Central Investigation Bureau. Individuals involved have been brought to justice, and authorities continue to monitor the situation to ensure fairness and prevent future incidents. The incident has been acknowledged as regrettable, highlighting the importance of honesty among civil servants.
Deputy Minister of Transport, Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, spoke on adjusting the criteria for the state welfare card, which was initially scheduled for Cabinet consideration. The Prime Minister requested a delay to thoroughly evaluate all aspects before proceeding.
Adjustments to the criteria, announced yesterday, will undergo review by the Ministry of Finance. The public is advised to stay informed on the Cabinet resolution next week to prevent confusion.
Mr. Anutin also commented on the upcoming meeting to appoint the National Police Chief, urging patience for the meeting's outcome. He stated that the decision will consider all factors, in line with legal principles.
