Bangkok: Thai soldiers were uninjured as Cambodian soldiers fired machine guns and grenades at the saddle channel. Thai soldiers were unhurt and maintained tight control over the Anma Canal after Cambodian machine gun and grenade launchers fired at them. The incident ended at 12:30 p.m.
According to Thai News Agency, at 12:30 PM on July 27, 2015, news reports revealed that Cambodian soldiers used submachine guns and grenades to shoot into the Thai side at 12:03 PM, forcing Thai military personnel to retaliate with the same caliber of weapons. At approximately 12:30 PM, the counter-fire ceased. All Thai personnel were safe, but they remained stationed at all points and were prepared at all times.
Army spokesman Major General Winthai Suvari revealed that between 12:00 and 12:30 the Army received a report from Army Area 2 that Cambodian soldiers were using small arms and grenade launchers to fire into the area around Chong An Ma, Ubon Ratchathani Province. Currently, the Suranaree Forces are prepared and have been ordered to fire back according to the situation.
The Army spokesman noted that the Cambodian side has frequently sent a temporary observer team from IOT-Cambodia to inspect the area. Therefore, it is suspected that the creation of this situation is a provocation to make the Thai side fire back and attack, to use as evidence to inform the temporary observer team from IOT-Cambodia that the Thai side has violated the ceasefire measures.
