Jea i rong: Chaos erupted in Jea I Rong as violent insurgents set fire to and spray-painted messages demanding justice on the 17th anniversary of past violence, inciting unrest across three locations. Authorities, alongside civilian volunteers, promptly cleared the areas and removed the graffiti, confirming these incidents were attempts to discredit the government. Events unfolded continuously from the evening of June 8th to the morning of June 9th, 2026. Police Colonel Narin Chuaysuk, Superintendent of Jea I Rong Police Station, Narathiwat Province, received reports from community leaders and residents.
According to Thai News Agency, at 7:30 AM on June 9, 2026, Pol. Col. Narin Chuaysuk received a report from Mr. Usman Maseng, assistant village headman of Airpayae Village, regarding red spray paint found on Highway 4026 with the message: "Today, 17 years ago, a loss that is now a memory." The police, along with the village leader and rangers from the 48th Ranger Regiment, secured the area before removing the message.
Earlier, at 11:00 PM on June 8, 2026, Pol. Col. Narin received another report from Mr. Mustopa Awae, assistant village headman of Kok Village, about vandalism on Road No. 4056. An unknown number of perpetrators had vandalized a trash can and sprayed a similar message nearby. Residents helped inspect and clear the area overnight.
At 3:00 AM on June 8, 2026, villagers reported that red spray paint was used on Road 4056, connecting Ban Yaning and Ban Pareh Ruboh. The message read: "17 years, Aipaya and justice will never be forgotten." Police officers and rangers, along with the public, investigated and cleaned the area.
Officials believe these incidents were orchestrated by members of a violent extremist group aiming to incite unrest and mislead villagers into thinking that the incident 17 years ago was government-perpetrated.
