Chinese Man Angered by Restaurant’s Currency Policy in Huai Khwang

Huai khwang: A Chinese man was furious when a restaurant in Huai Khwang district refused to accept Thai baht, only Chinese yuan, and charged him extra for his meal.

According to Thai News Agency, a young Chinese man living in Thailand posted a video on TikTok recounting an incident at a Chinese restaurant in the Huai Khwang area, also known as "Huai Khwang Province" because of its numerous Chinese restaurants. The reason for his video was his dissatisfaction with the restaurant's refusal to accept Thai baht when he paid, stating they only accepted Chinese yuan (yuan) because they didn't have a Thai bank account. This forced him to pay with yuan, and he was charged an extra 50 baht, bringing the total to 375 baht.

The Chinese man questioned whether it was legal for a Chinese restaurant operating in Thailand to only accept yuan and WeChat payments without a Thai bank account. He added, "Even I, a true Chinese person, was very angry. The restaurant probably thought I'd just arrived in Thailand, but I've been here for a long time. Don't do this. All businesses must operate legally. Those living in Thailand should follow Thai law and not forget to pay taxes."
