Chonburi Villagers Warned of Fake Electricity Officials Scam

Chonburi:A warning has been issued about a man impersonating an electricity authority official, targeting residents in Chonburi province villages by demanding the installation of circuit breakers for a fee of 5,900 baht. The scammer has reportedly visited four villages, deceiving several people.

According to Thai News Agency, a Facebook post by "Kamron Ketprayoon" shared images and information from residents about a group masquerading as electricity company officials. These men approached homes to inspect electrical systems and then coerced residents into paying for circuit breaker installations. Security cameras captured images of the vehicle and the group involved.

In Map Pong Subdistrict, Phan Thong District, reporters met with Mr. Kamron, the village headman of Moo 8, and Mr. Tae, a victim of the scam. Mr. Tae recounted that the men came to his father's house, claiming to be officials, and demanded 5,900 baht after installing a circuit breaker. His father called him down to make a payment of 1,000 baht, with the rest to be paid in installments. Suspicion arose later, leading to the discovery that the men were not legitimate officials.

Mr. Kamron investigated the situation after hearing from villagers and found the group in Phan Thong village. Upon his approach, the men fled. He urges the public to verify the identity of anyone claiming to be an official before agreeing to inspections or installations. Further investigation is needed to address this scam fully.
