Chuan Leekpai Supports Anucha Burapachaisri’s Campaign Amidst Concerns of Political Corruption

Bangkok: "Chuan" (Chuan Leekpai) has thrown his support behind "Anucha," candidate number 5, as the campaign nears its end, highlighting that even after 94 years, corruption remains a significant issue in Thai politics.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Anucha Burapachaisri, the Democrat Party's candidate for Bangkok Governor, was joined by Mr. Chuan Leekpai, former Prime Minister and party advisor, and Mr. Ongart Klamphaiboon, advisor to the party leader, in an early morning campaign at Saphan 2 Market. Accompanying them was Mr. Anurak Lertwattanapaiboon, candidate for the Bangkok City Council for Wang Thonglang district, number 5. The campaign trail saw merchants and shoppers welcoming them and capturing moments with the candidates.

Mr. Chuan delivered a speech at the market, rallying support for the Democrat Party's candidates in the Bangkok gubernatorial and city council races. He underscored his campaign focus on promoting the party's policies rooted in honest political principles. Marking the 94th anniversary of a governmental shift, Mr. Chuan lamented ongoing corruption challenges in Thai politics, citing allegations of vote buying, Senate collusion, and recent scandals involving falsified civil service exam sheets. He questioned the ability of such individuals to govern with integrity. Despite polling challenges, Mr. Chuan expressed confidence in Mr. Anucha's integrity, which prompted his support in the campaign's closing week. He urged voters to be well-informed before casting their votes on June 28th.

Mr. Anucha expressed his gratitude towards Mr. Chuan Leekpai for his support in the campaign. He reiterated the Democrat Party's commitment to "honest politics," a stance emphasized by party leader Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, aiming to extend this principle from national politics to local governance, including the Bangkok Governor and Metropolitan Council members.

Mr. Anucha pledged that if given the opportunity to serve, he would lead with honesty and integrity, maintaining transparency and accountability, and ensuring rigorous internal oversight within the party.

The Democrat Party aims to implement five key policies effectively if they secure a significant presence in the Bangkok City Council, particularly focusing on establishing a transparent system for auditing the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's budget.
