Nakhon nayok: Chulabhorn Hospital, in collaboration with Nakhon Nayok Hospital and local public health partners, has launched a free colorectal cancer screening event in Nakhon Nayok Province using colonoscopy. This initiative aims to enhance rapid and comprehensive diagnosis and treatment, promoting sustainable public health.
According to Thai News Agency, the Endoscopy and Hepatology Center of Chulabhorn Hospital, along with Nakhon Nayok Hospital and other partner networks, organized this campaign for at-risk groups in the province. The 'Colorectal Cancer Screening Mobile Unit Project' was spearheaded by key figures including Dr. Chatchai Klaysubun, Dr. Thitiya Buranachart, Dr. Tawee Rattanachuek, Dr. Kanokpoj Chanphiwat, Dr. Kantsuda Panchachaiyapornpol, and Dr. Worawat Saengwipasanaporn. The outreach program provided free colonoscopy screenings to over 350 individuals from August 29-30, 2026, aiming to increase access to screening and reduce colorectal cancer risk.
Dr. Worawat Saengwiphasanaporn highlighted the project's goal of increasing access to comprehensive colorectal cancer screening and early care through collaboration with local health networks. He emphasized that colonoscopy plays a crucial role in early cancer detection and prevention, by identifying and removing polyps and lesions. The project also aims to build a connected system for screening, diagnosis, and follow-up care, while raising public awareness of early screening importance.
Dr. Chatchai Klaysubun noted that colorectal cancer represents a significant public health issue, with the Ministry of Public Health and NHSO recommending regular screenings. He emphasized the importance of confirming abnormal screening results through colonoscopy, and outlined plans to provide services to 350 patients this year, addressing the need for reduced waiting times and enhanced care.
Dr. Thitiya Buranachart pointed out that colorectal cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the country, often presenting without symptoms early on. She stressed the importance of colonoscopy for diagnosis and prevention, sharing that in fiscal year 2025, Nakhon Nayok Hospital screened 264 at-risk individuals and performed polypectomies for many. The province aims to expand coverage and provide services to more patients meeting screening criteria in 2026.
This event aims to improve screening and care in the region, accelerating access to colonoscopy and diagnosis, while building personnel capacity and strengthening local service networks. It also seeks to raise public awareness about early screening benefits, with collaboration from Chulabhorn Hospital, Rajavithi Hospital, and other local health units contributing to a holistic approach and sustainable community health.
