Chulaphan Affirms No Delay in Appointing Social Security Board Advisors

Accra:Mr. Chulaphan Amornvivat, Minister of Labour, has clarified that there will be no halt in appointing a selection committee for advisors to the Social Security Board (SSB). This response comes amidst calls from the Progressive Social Security Group to postpone the selection process until a new board is officially approved.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chulaphan emphasized that the current process involves constituting a "Selection Committee" in compliance with legal timeframes and procedures, not selecting board advisors directly. He highlighted the necessity of this step due to the expiration of the previous board advisors' terms, stressing that any delay could be seen as a dereliction of duty for the Ministry of Labour.

Mr. Chulaphan explained that while the selection committee is formed under the ministerial authority, the actual approval of advisors is a prerogative of the new SSB board. Should the new board reject the proposed list of advisors, the selection process would have to restart, ensuring a system of checks and balances between the ministry and the board.

Addressing concerns about the impartiality of the selection committee, Mr. Chulaphan assured that the committee includes representatives from diverse sectors with the required expertise, adhering to clearly defined qualification criteria. He concluded by reiterating the importance of the tripartite principle, involving the government, employers, and employees, to maintain transparency and balance within the Social Security Fund's operations.
