Rome:Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sihasak Phuangketkaew, has urged Thai citizens in Europe to avoid protest areas and exercise caution following an escalation of protests across several regions. He has also instructed Thai embassies to closely monitor the evolving situation.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sihasak, currently on an official visit to Italy and Vatican City, highlighted the seriousness of the situation in various European countries, including the violent protests in Paris, France. He noted that French President Emmanuel Macron is actively working to address the unrest by enforcing laws and offering compensation to those affected. The Royal Thai Embassy in Paris has issued warnings to the public to avoid protest areas and remain vigilant.
Mr. Sihasak expressed concern that the unrest has spread to other areas, including Milan, Italy, where protests have emerged over issues such as the cost of living, employment, and education. Similar incidents have also occurred in Portugal and Belgium. While the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not prohibited travel to these countries, it advises travelers to exercise caution and stay informed through the Ministry's website. Thai citizens facing difficulties in these regions are encouraged to contact the local Thai Embassy.
In addition, Mr. Sihasak has directed Thai ambassadors in Europe to ensure the safety of Thai citizens, especially in protest-affected areas. However, he confirmed that there have been no incidents directly involving Thai nationals so far.
