Bangkok: CK Power Public Company Limited (CKPower) announced a net profit of 326 million baht in the first half of 2026 as the company develops systems to address the El Ni±o phenomenon by enhancing its water level monitoring and forecasting capabilities.
According to Thai News Agency, the company's Managing Director, Mr. Thanawat Triwisawawet, disclosed that CKPower and its subsidiaries reported a net operating profit of 210 million baht in the second quarter and 326 million baht in the first half of 2026. These figures represent a decrease of 40% and 22% compared to the same period last year, primarily due to a reduction in revenue from electricity sales by Bang Pa-in Cogeneration Company Limited (BIC) and Nam Ngum 2 Power Company Limited (NN2), along with increased fuel costs for BIC in the second quarter.
Despite these challenges, CKPower recognized its share of net profit from the operations of Xayaburi Power Plant (XPCL) in the second quarter and the first half of the year, amounting to 318 and 517 million baht, respectively. This marks increases of 49% and 134% compared to the same period last year, thanks to increased water flow through the Xayaburi hydropower plant, which led to higher electricity sales. Furthermore, a trend of lower average interest rates than the previous year is expected to reduce XPCL's financial costs and support its performance in the second half of 2026.
As of June 2026, the Nam Ngum 2 hydropower plant maintained a reservoir water level of 355 meters above mean sea level, similar to the same period last year, despite lower inflow into the reservoir. Meanwhile, the average water flow through the Xayaburi hydropower plant remained 15% higher than the previous year. With weather forecasts indicating the possibility of an El Ni±o event in the latter half of 2026, the company is preparing by developing a Hydrometeorological Monitoring and Forecasting System to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of its hydropower plants' electricity generation readiness.
Regarding the Luang Prabang hydropower project, construction progress as of June 2026 was at 77%, aligning with the planned schedule. Additionally, the renewable energy power generation project under the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) scheme, with no fuel costs, under Bangkhenchai Co., Ltd. (BKC), has commenced construction. This project, which has an installed capacity of 6 megawatts (MW), is set to begin commercial operation in 2027 under a 25-year contract.
