Collapsed Awning Cleared, Rama IV Road Reopened to Traffic

Bangkok: Authorities have reopened traffic on Rama IV Road in Samphanthawong district, near Wat Traimit Witthayaram Worawihan, after clearing debris from a collapsed awning of five commercial buildings. The collapse resulted in the death of 67-year-old Mr. Prawit. The cleanup operation, which took over 12 hours, involved removing rubble and structural fragments from the site, as well as cutting down a fallen power pole. The operation was completed by 5:00 AM this morning. Metal barriers have now been erected around the five affected buildings to prevent further danger and ensure public safety.

According to Thai News Agency, some awnings on the first floor of the building remain, and no further demolition has taken place yet. This is because relevant agencies need to conduct a thorough inspection of the building's structural integrity. Meanwhile, local residents admit to being concerned about safety, as most of the commercial buildings in this area are over 100 years old.
