Chonburi: The Shooting Sports Association hopes that Thai marksmen will win 4 SEA Games gold medals in the first inclusion.
According to Thai News Agency, Colonel Ekkachaiphak Siriwat, Vice Chairman of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand and Vice Chairman of the SEA Games Council, along with Mr. Preecha Lalun, Deputy Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, visited the Practical Shooting Sports Association of Thailand’s facilities. These facilities, located inside the Eastern National Sports Training Center in Chonburi Province, will host the shooting events for the 33rd SEA Games.
Colonel Ekachaiphak mentioned that the location of the shooting field is good and suitable, but emphasized the need for additional government support, particularly regarding facilities. This marks the first time that shooting sport has been included in the SEA Games, with a total of 8 gold medals up for grabs-4 for men and 4 for women in the individual category. Plans are underway to advocate for the sport’s continued inclusion in the subsequent SEA Games in 2027.
General Phromsak Puangsaroj, president of the association, noted the growing popularity of combat shooting among both Thais and foreigners. He stated that the Thai national athletes are well-prepared and aim to secure 4 gold medals, with strong competition expected from athletes from the Philippines and Indonesia.
