Commemorative Coins for IMF-World Bank 2026 Meeting Attract Large Crowds in Thailand

Bangkok:People eagerly gathered to exchange commemorative coins celebrating the IMF-World Bank Group Annual Meetings 2026, as citizens and collectors formed long lines at the Coin Exchange Building, Treasury Department, Ministry of Finance.

According to Thai News Agency, the lively atmosphere marked the beginning of the coin exchange event, celebrating Thailand's hosting of the 2026 IMF-World Bank Group Annual Meetings from October 12-18, 2026. This event is significant as it is the first time in 35 years that Thailand is hosting this global economic and financial forum.

The special 100-baht commemorative coin is crafted from a copper-nickel alloy. The obverse side displays portraits of His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen, while the reverse features the conference emblem, underscoring Thailand's honor in hosting the event.

Two variations of the commemorative coins were produced for the 2026 Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group. The first is a polished white metal coin with a 100 baht denomination, a 38 mm diameter, and a weight of 25 grams, with a limited production of no more than 30,000 coins, sold at a retail price of 700 baht each. The second is a standard white metal coin of the same denomination, dimensions, and weight, with a production cap of 200,000 coins, available for exchange at 100 baht per coin.

Exchanges for the commemorative coins commenced on October 9, 2026, through several channels, including the Currency Management Division in Pathum Thani Province, and various coin exchange units in Bangkok. Additionally, the Treasury Department offices in 76 areas nationwide and online platforms such as the Treasury Department's e-Commerce system and the TRD e-Commerce application offer the coins. Online orders will be delivered via postal service, with shipping costs borne by the buyer.
