Jakarta:The Trade Policy and Strategy Office (TPSO) reports that despite the 2026 floods, commodity prices remain stable, though monitoring continues on the impact on household income and purchasing power.
According to Thai News Agency, the TPSO has assessed the flood situation and found that commodity prices have not yet seen widespread increases. They are keeping a close watch on household income, liquidity, and purchasing power, as these factors may influence occupations and the economy in the affected regions.
A recent assessment by the TPSO revealed that while some fresh vegetables initially saw price hikes, prices have started to decrease following measures by the Ministry of Commerce to expedite the distribution of goods from unaffected production areas to the market. Nonetheless, the potential impact on household income, liquidity, savings, and purchasing power remains a concern.
Price monitoring in modern trade stores at the end of September 2026 indicated that over 70% of tracked items had stable prices, with 12.4% experiencing increases and 16.9% seeing decreases. This reflects that price increases have not become widespread.
Mr. Nantapong Chiraleartpong, Director of the TPSO, emphasized the importance of monitoring household income, liquidity, and purchasing power. The flooding may disrupt normal livelihoods and economic activities, leading to reduced income for some households, which also face increased essential expenses related to food, transportation, property relocation and maintenance, and post-flood repairs to housing and business equipment.
