Bangkok: The Commissioner General of Police has mandated an upgrade in security measures for rear areas and the deployment of Border Patrol Police to assist the military at the front lines.
According to Thai News Agency, this directive includes stepping up security in rear areas, conducting strict patrols to ensure maximum security, and deploying Border Patrol Police forces to reinforce military operations.
Police General Kittirat Phanphet, the Commissioner General of the Royal Thai Police, has delegated Police General Samran Nuanma, Deputy Commissioner General, to oversee a situation-monitoring meeting concerning the Thai-Cambodian border. The meeting, held at the Royal Thai Police Operations Center, was attended by representatives from relevant agencies. Police General Samran emphasized the need for strict adherence to the Commissioner General’s orders.
The Border Patrol Police Command has been designated as the primary unit responsible for border defense missions, supporting forward military operations, and aiding in the evacuation of teachers and students from Border Patrol Police schools. Police Region 2 and Police Region 3, overseeing areas bordering Thailand and Cambodia, have been assigned as supporting units, preparing forces for additional support. The Commissioner General has also directed relevant units to enhance their operations according to the rear protection plan, ensuring public safety and security. This includes deploying police patrols to protect citizens’ property and homes during evacuations, establishing routes for medical assistance and logistical support, and facilitating traffic flow.
To date, police in the Thai-Cambodian border areas of Sa Kaeo, Ubon Ratchathani, Buriram, Surin, and Si Saket provinces, along with related agencies and volunteers, have helped evacuate over 110,000 people to shelters. More than 4,200 police officers have been deployed to ensure the safety and protection of those residing in these shelters.
Pol. Gen. Samran underscored the importance of monitoring and assessing intelligence, coordinating operations across sectors, and providing immediate support as required. He also highlighted the necessity of heightened vigilance and security to reassure the public, with a dual focus on preventing unrest and monitoring individuals who might pose a threat or cause disturbances in the area.
