Construction Crane Collapse Causes Tragedy on Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani Train

Nakhon ratchasima: A construction crane collapse in Sikhiu District has resulted in a catastrophic incident involving a Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani passenger train. On January 14, 2026, the crane fell onto the train, damaging three trains, causing one to catch fire, and leaving at least 80 people injured, with fatalities reported. The State Railway of Thailand acted swiftly to assist the injured by transporting them to nearby hospitals, including Sikhiu Hospital, Non Sung Hospital, and Pak Chong Hospital, based on the severity of their injuries.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Prasert Chantharawongthong, Secretary-General of the Pheu Thai Party, was in Sikhiu District for campaign activities when he learned of the incident. He quickly proceeded to the site to assess the situation and monitor the relief operations. Mr. Prasert also collaborated with local hospitals and foundations to expedite medical transfers for victims requiring urgent care.

Efforts were made to provide temporary accommodation for passengers stranded by the incident while they awaited contact from family members. The State Railway of Thailand was also involved in disseminating the names of those injured or deceased to facilitate communication between relatives and passengers affected by the calamity.
