Chairs were provided for the public to sit and wait for the procession. However, the limited seating was quickly occupied. Many attendees were willing to sit on the ground just to witness the royal barge procession and its accompanying parade, a spectacle they wished to see at least once in their lives. Officials made efforts to accommodate as many people as possible, recognizing the public's desire to experience the event firsthand, which many had only previously seen via televised broadcasts.
