Bangkok: Anucha Burapachaisri, the Democrat Party's candidate for Bangkok Governor, along with his team, visited the historic Nang Leong Market in Pom Prap Sattru Phai District. They showcased their innovative use of a digital app intended to highlight "the best of inner city districts." Anucha, who is running as candidate number 5, was accompanied by Mr. Ongart Klamphaiboon, advisor to the party leader, and Ms. Nipaphan Junglersiri, candidate for Bangkok City Council, number 2. They engaged with local vendors and residents, discussing economic development plans for the area.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Anucha emphasized the potential of Nang Leong Market and its surroundings, which include landmarks like the Sala Chalermthani Cinema. He proposed a digital platform that would serve as a comprehensive guide for residents and tourists, promoting the area's economic and cultural offerings. This initiative aims to boost the local economy by attracting tourists and stimulating grassroots economic activities.
During the visit, Mr. Anucha also addressed the issue of alleged "targeted procurement" in Bangkok, revealing that over 90% of procurement projects in recent years have used selective bidding, raising concerns about corruption. He highlighted a particularly suspicious project worth 4 billion baht, where the bidding process showed unusually close price offers. Anucha vowed to tackle corruption decisively if elected, promising transparency and accountability in Bangkok's governance.
Mr. Anucha also outlined his plans to regulate street vending and improve contractor quality for infrastructure projects. He proposed a QR code registration system for vendors to prevent exploitation and emphasized the need for strict safety regulations to prevent road collapses. Anucha invited the public to a policy presentation on June 19th in Silom and announced a major rally before the June 28th election to share his vision for a more hopeful and transparent Bangkok.
The visit concluded with Anucha and his team visiting the shrine of Prince Chumphon in the Nang Loeng area, where he expressed his hopes for the well-being of Bangkok's residents as he continued his campaign efforts.
