Deputy Minister of Agriculture Assesses Water Management Plans in Yom River Basin

Bangkok: The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Ms. Piyarat Tiyapairat, has actively engaged in a thorough review of the water management plans in the Yom River basin. During her visit to the Mae Yom Weir in Ban Nun Subdistrict, Song District, she assessed ongoing projects aimed at improving water resource management to ensure water security for both consumption and agricultural purposes, while preparing for potential future flood scenarios.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Tiyapairat was accompanied by Mr. Piya Lueutikulwong, Director of Irrigation Office Region 4, and his team, who collectively engaged with local farmers to understand their challenges and gather feedback on water management needs. Mr. Asanee Charuchat, Director of the Phrae Irrigation Project, provided insights into the water management strategies in place, which focus on meeting the region's water demands throughout the year.

Mr. Chaiyawat Kamthong, Director of the Mae Yom Irrigation and Maintenance Project, emphasized the critical role of the Mae Yom Weir in supporting agricultural areas across five districts. The weir's extensive irrigation system, comprising over 339 kilometers of canals and 2,139 structures, facilitates water distribution to approximately 196,000 rai of agricultural land, ensuring efficient water control and drainage.

Mr. Chok Phrintrakul, Director of the Large-Scale Irrigation Construction Office No. 4, outlined future developments, including the construction of new water control structures and improvements to existing facilities. These enhancements aim to bolster water distribution and minimize flood impacts in the region.

Mr. Wacharadul Thanamai, Director of the Medium-Sized Irrigation Construction Office No. 4, discussed medium-sized projects designed to increase local water resources. Initiatives such as the Huai Mae On Reservoir and Huai Mae Kon Reservoir projects are poised to enhance water security and support the province's long-term agricultural growth.

These comprehensive efforts in water resource development highlight the ongoing commitment to ensuring sustainable water management in the Yom River basin.
