EGAT Hosts 2026 Environment Day Event to Boost Climate Action Initiatives

Bangkok: EGAT (Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand) underscored its commitment to climate action, reinforcing its environmental capabilities as it contributes to Thailand's journey towards achieving net-zero emissions. The initiative aligns with the United Nations (UN) World Environment Day theme for 2026, "A Global Call for Climate Action."

According to Thai News Agency, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, in partnership with both government and private sector entities, organized the 2026 Environment Day event under the theme "EGAT Climate Action." Mr. Narind Paovanit, Governor of EGAT, emphasized the organization's commitment to balancing energy security with environmental protection as part of their mission on World Environment Day 2026. He highlighted EGAT's dedication to developing clean energy technologies and promoting the efficient use of resources, ensuring that energy and environment grow together, thereby addressing climate change challenges.

EGAT's environmental strategy involves the advancement of knowledge, technology, and innovation in clean energy, combined with systematic environmental management, to foster a low-carbon society and sustainable future for Thailand. This involves increasing clean energy proportions, managing greenhouse gases, promoting a circular economy, and conserving biodiversity. Projects include floating solar power plants, hydrogen fuel technology studies, preparation for small-scale nuclear power technology, and solutions for electric vehicles. Mr. Narind Paovanit stated EGAT's readiness to drive climate change management and support Thailand's goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.

The event also served as a knowledge-sharing platform on climate change through the "Climate Action Talk." Experts like Prof. Dr. Pisut Piermonkul from Chulalongkorn University, Mr. Siwat Kaewcharoen from the Department of Climate Change and Environment, and other notable figures shared insights and strategies for tangible climate action.

Additionally, the event featured an "EGAT Climate Action" exhibition, highlighting the organization's initiatives in combating climate change, along with workshops centered around the circular economy and efficient resource utilization. These activities aimed to educate participants on reducing environmental impact in efforts to ensure a sustainable future for coming generations.
