Emperor of Japan Declares 2026 a Year of Peace

Tokyo: The Emperor of Japan has declared 2026 a year of peace. This announcement was made during the New Year's greeting as Emperor Naruhito, accompanied by Empress Masako and Princess Aiko, addressed thousands of citizens from the balcony of the Imperial Palace, extending wishes for peace and prosperity.

According to Thai News Agency, the Emperor expressed his hopes for a peaceful year following a period of significant hardships due to natural disasters such as earthquakes, heavy rains, wildfires, and severe snowfall. His message emphasized happiness for both the people of Japan and the global community.

In 2024, the royal New Year's address was canceled after a devastating earthquake hit northern Japan on New Year's Day, resulting in over 500 fatalities.
