Phayao: Authorities are intensifying efforts to hunt down a well-behaved prisoner who escaped from the temporary Rong Ha detention center. The escapee, known as Decharat or "Nott," was nearing the end of his sentence when he fled the facility using a relative's motorcycle.
According to Thai News Agency, Decharat was convicted of a Category 1 narcotics offense (methamphetamine hydrochloride) and illegal possession and carrying of a firearm. He had a total sentence of 2 years and 12 months, with only 1 year, 6 months, and 12 days remaining. The escape occurred yesterday afternoon, and officials suspect it was triggered by stress related to personal problems following a family visit.
Investigations reveal that Decharat walked to a relative's house approximately 1.5 kilometers from the detention center before borrowing a blue Honda Wave motorcycle with Phayao license plates. He then fled along rural highway number Phayao 001 towards Pha Chang Moob village in the Ban Tom subdistrict of Mueang district, Phayao province. The escape route suggests a premeditated plan influenced by accumulated stress from family issues.
Mr. Anukul Numneung, commander of Phayao Provincial Prison, disclosed that Decharat is considered a model prisoner. He had been transferred to the temporary prison in Rong Ha for vocational training in agriculture to prepare for his release. The facility is in an open agricultural area without a fence, which may have facilitated the escape. Currently, Phayao Provincial Prison officials, in cooperation with related agencies, are actively tracking down Decharat to return him to custody.
