Exploring the Cultural Beliefs of the Mani People in Upcoming Docuseries

Bangkok:"The Final Journey of the Mani People" will be featured in the program "From Womb to Tomb" on November 7th on Channel 9. The episode, hosted by Tak-Napassaran Mitthiroj, will delve into the unique cultural practices of the Mani tribe, who are known for their deep respect for nature and their distinctive approach to life and death.

According to Thai News Agency, the docuseries "Born to Heaven," supported by the Safe and Creative Media Development Fund, aims to explore various beliefs, rituals, traditions, and cultures. The show emphasizes the universal human experiences of birth, illness, and death, highlighting how different cultures care for the newborn, provide hope for the sick, and honor the deceased. It airs every Saturday and Sunday at 1030 AM on Channel 9.

The episode titled "The Mani People's Final Way" will focus on the tribe's perspective on death. The Mani, who do not practice sacrificial ceremonies, view death as a natural part of life. Their beliefs are centered around the respect for natural elements such as trees, rivers, and mountains, which they believe possess their own energy. In cases where a person is terminally ill and the tribe must relocate, they leave the sick with food and water. Upon returning, if bones are found, it signifies death; otherwise, the individual is believed to have returned to the ancestors. Interaction with lowland populations has led to some instances of burials, marking a cultural adaptation.
