Heavy rains in Sap Yai District, Chaiyaphum Province, have caused flash floods to erode the Tha Koob Reservoir wall, extending over 10 meters. The floodwaters have inundated jasmine rice fields, causing significant damage. Urgent repairs are being requested, fearing a lack of water during the dry season.
According to Thai News Agency, unstable weather and unseasonal rainstorms have lashed Sap Yai District, Chaiyaphum Province, particularly Tha Koob Village. Flash floods have flowed down from the Phang Hoei Mountains into the Tha Koob Reservoir, eroding the reservoir wall for over 10 meters. This has caused massive flooding, inundating agricultural areas, jasmine rice fields, and fish ponds belonging to villagers in Sap Yai District and Sompoi Subdistrict, Chatturat District, causing widespread damage. The Tha Koob Subdistrict Administrative Organization is urgently surveying the area to find solutions.
One villager said the rain was the heaviest in 15 years, and that he had never experienced it since he arrived in the community. The broken reservoir was built more than 40 years ago and is used to store water for the more than 300 households in the Tha Koob community. He urged them to speed up repairs, fearing there would be insufficient water during the dry season.
