Ubon ratchathani: "Jaset" leads the team in integrating flood response drills in Ubon Ratchathani. Mr. Jetseth Thaiseth, Deputy Minister of Interior, visited and offered encouragement during the 2026 Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Exercise (Flood Sector) in Ubon Ratchathani Province (Ubon-Dmex 2026). He was accompanied by Mr. Teerapat Khachamat, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation; Mr. Narong Thepsena, Governor of Ubon Ratchathani Province; Lt. Col. Soramongkol Mongkhalasiri, Deputy Governor of Ubon Ratchathani Province (Incident Commander); and other officials and representatives.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jetset and his team visited exhibitions of partner agencies, such as the radio command network of the Ministry of Interior, the Department of Provincial Administration, and the amateur radio network. They also tested radio communication for reporting situations with the district administration office and visited various exhibits, including the "Phon Phai" (Disaster Relief) application from the Thai Red Cross Society and fire prevention and chemical spill preparedness exhibits from the Department of Labor Protection and Welfare. The emergency response exercise in Ubon Ratchathani was initiated by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, aiming to assess the readiness of all agencies to handle disaster situations.
Mr. Jetset emphasized the importance of disaster preparedness and the role of training exercises in minimizing the impact on the public. He stressed that integration is crucial, as no single agency can tackle disasters alone. The drills are part of a broader strategy that began in Chiang Rai and Phetchabun, with plans for a large-scale drill in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province.
Mr. Teerapat highlighted the significance of cooperation in disaster response, stating that the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation relies on collaborative efforts to address citizens' problems. Mr. Narong mentioned that Ubon Ratchathani Province is at high risk of flooding due to its geographical location, making preparedness and prevention vital.
The drills also included a simulated disaster preparedness exercise led by Mr. Saramongkol, who noted that the Central Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command (CDPMC) is monitoring weather conditions and potential risks, with warnings issued about Tropical Storm X.
The exercise aims to enhance the capabilities of government agencies, the private sector, and volunteers in disaster response. Mr. Jetset urged participants to ensure safety during training and emphasized the importance of effective communication.
In the afternoon, the exercise will continue with visits to medical and public health stations and temporary shelter management stations in the Warin Chamrap District.
