A brazen attack unfolded when gunmen ambushed and shot a former assistant village headman, resulting in his immediate death and leaving his wife injured. Police are currently investigating two potential motives behind the attack.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred last night in Sai Buri District, Pattani Province, right in front of the victim's single-story wooden house located in Moo 8, Tambon Paen. The victim, identified as 53-year-old Mr. Aliya, was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso inflicted by a military-grade firearm. His wife, Ms. Chanthima, aged 45, sustained injuries and was subsequently taken to Phra Yuparat Sai Buri Hospital for medical care.
The investigation indicates that Mr. Aliya and Ms. Chanthima were on a motorcycle, with Ms. Chanthima as a passenger, when they were ambushed by unknown assailants wielding automatic weapons upon arriving at their residence. Authorities discovered five 5.56 mm shell casings at the crime scene, and the attackers managed to flee the area. As police continue to gather evidence, they are exploring two main theories: a personal conflict and a possible attempt to incite unrest in the region.
