Government Revamps ThaiWater App to Improve Crisis Warning System

Bangkok: The government has upgraded its crisis warning system, providing comprehensive information in one app through the revamped "ThaiWater" platform. This update aims to reform the national water data system, delivering up-to-date information to users before crises occur. With features such as rainfall checking, dam levels, high-risk areas, and PM2.5 levels all accessible on one page, the app provides vital data at a glance.

According to Thai News Agency, Lieutenant Colonel Patthadarasmi Thongslueykorn, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced that the government has transitioned its disaster response system from a reactive to a proactive prevention model. This shift is achieved through the development of the new version of the ThaiWater platform, which is designed for wider use and accessible to both the general public and experts. The platform integrates data from 56 agencies under 13 ministries and one independent organization, ensuring standardized national water management and reducing data conflicts during crises.

A standout feature of the updated ThaiWater app is its interactive data maps, which provide easy and quick access to crucial information. The app consolidates key data onto a single page, including rainfall radar, amounts, water levels, dam conditions, monitored areas, and PM2.5 levels. It also boasts an improved warning system with location-specific forecasts, enabling citizens and local officials to prepare for any situation. The service is available free of charge to the public via the website www.thaiwater.net and the 'ThaiWater Know the Water, Know the Weather' application on both iOS and Android systems.

Lieutenant Colonel Thongslueykorn further mentioned that besides the ThaiWater platform, there is also the integration of websites for "Provincial Water Information Centers" across all 76 provinces. This integration allows provincial governors and local authorities to analyze disaster-prone areas based on the specific context of each region. This reduces redundant directives and increases the speed of decision-making regarding evacuation or assistance to the public. These websites can be accessed separately by province, such as phrae.thaiwater.net, chiangrai.thaiwater.net, and nan.thaiwater.net.
