Bangkok: A spokesperson for the Center for the Emergency Situation Administration (CEA) has confirmed that 9,000 baht will be distributed to victims of recent floods next week. This announcement comes as part of a broader effort to address the ongoing crisis affecting several areas in Thailand.
According to Thai News Agency, the announcement was made by Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, alongside Lt. Gen. Wanchana Sawasdee, deputy spokesman for the Royal Thai Armed Forces, and Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, deputy spokesperson for the CEA. The officials provided updates on the government’s relief measures following a meeting of the Flood Emergency Operations Center (FOCOC).
Mr. Siripong detailed that the government, along with organizations like the Mirror Foundation, is actively working on rehabilitation and relief measures for flood victims in Songkhla Province. Efforts include distributing water and restoring electricity, with 80% of electrical services back online and ongoing inspections for the remaining 20,000 homes. The Prime Minister has directed authorities to expedite the distribution of tap water to affected areas.
The meeting also highlighted the government’s “big cleaning” campaign aimed at waste disposal and the relocation of vehicles. The Ministry of Transport and other agencies are coordinating efforts to ensure citizens can track their vehicles and benefit from expedited cleanup processes.
Lt. Gen. Wanchana discussed the operational strategies, emphasizing the transition from crisis management to recovery. With 85% coverage for water, electricity, and phone services, the focus is now on shelter and supply management. The establishment of checkpoints and patrols aims to maintain security and prevent criminal activities during the recovery phase.
The recovery efforts are structured into immediate, medium, and long-term phases, addressing home repairs, road restoration, and utility management. Eight field hospitals have been set up to provide medical support, both within and outside the flood-affected areas.
Ms. Ratchada reiterated the government’s commitment to providing financial relief to disaster victims and facilitating the issuance of essential documents for those who lost them. The Ministry of Interior is offering ID card issuance services at several locations in Hat Yai District, with additional services available at the District Service Center in Central Hat Yai.
The government has also introduced technology to assist disaster victims in managing lost documents through a government app. This initiative aims to streamline the process of accessing essential services and aid in recovery efforts.
Overall, the government and various agencies continue to work collaboratively to ensure swift and effective relief and recovery for flood-affected residents in Thailand.
