Bangkok: 'Half-Half Travel' is coming for sure! 'Surawong' is about to propose to the Cabinet before it starts on July 1st. Mr. Surawong Thienthong, Minister of Tourism and Sports, announced the upcoming proposal of the Half-Half Travel project to the Cabinet. This initiative is set to commence on July 1, 2025, with a focus on enhancing the image, safety, and cleanliness for tourists, as emphasized by Prime Minister Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Surawong disclosed this development following the 2/2568 Thailand Tourism Situation Monitoring Meeting. He reported on the collaborative efforts required from all ministries and agencies related to tourism to address issues concerning tourist image, safety, cleanliness, and convenience during the low season. The Prime Minister has outlined policies aimed at enhancing tourists' comfort and safety, backed by a budget of 157 billion baht to bolster the economy and build confidence. While the number of tourists has decreased, revenue for the country has risen, notably with increased arrivals from European and American markets.
Mr. Surawong further highlighted the Ministry of Tourism and Sports' efforts in supporting both major and secondary cities that have requested economic stimulus budgets. He assured that the Half-Half Thailand Travel Project and the strategy to rejuvenate the Chinese market are in the pipeline. The project is expected to be presented at the forthcoming Cabinet meeting, with the Tourism Authority of Thailand developing a registration platform for entrepreneurs and interested Thais, set to be available by July 1st.
Adding to the discussion, Mr. Jirayu Huangtrakul, spokesman for the Prime Minister's Office, noted the Prime Minister's directives for ensuring safety and cleanliness for all tourists traveling within Thailand in the second half of the year. This includes modern safety systems like AI, with coordination from the Tourist Police and local agencies. Despite the drop in tourist numbers, the focus remains on increasing income through a range of activities planned for the latter half of the year.
