Bangkok: His Majesty the King has graciously bestowed royal funeral rites, including the sacred ritual of bathing the body with holy water, upon Mrs. Jarunee Chotikul, honoring her with a gold casket adorned with intricate engravings. Mrs. Jarunee, a retired civil servant from the Ministry of Education, was recognized for her service by receiving the Second Class Order of the White Elephant and the Second Class Order of the Crown of Thailand. Her funeral ceremonies took place at Sala 2, Wat Sri Suthawas Royal Monastery in Mueang Loei District.
According to Thai News Agency, the solemn event was attended by Mr. Chaipoj Charoonpong, the Governor of Loei Province, his wife, the Deputy Governor, along with relatives and close friends who gathered to pay their respects. They expressed heartfelt gratitude for His Majesty's profound compassion and the honor bestowed upon Mrs. Jarunee.
Mrs. Jarunee Chotikul was born on October 9, 1927, and passed away on September 2, 2026, at the age of 98. She was the mother of renowned singers Asanee and Vasana Chotikul. In the face of their personal loss, both artists continued to perform on the opening day of their "FAREWELL CONCERT: I Want to Emphasize It Clearly, the Last Time," concluding their performance before sharing the news of their mother's passing with the public on September 9th.
The detailed schedule of the funeral rites included yesterday's royal bathing ceremony. Buddhist chanting ceremonies are scheduled for today and tomorrow at 6:00 PM. On Tuesday, September 15, there will be a morning chanting ceremony and offering of food to monks at 10:00 AM, followed by the royal cremation ceremony at 3:00 PM.
