House of Representatives Continues Debate on 2026 Budget Bill

Bangkok: The House of Representatives resumed discussions on the proposed 2026 budget, focusing on allocations for the Ministry of Interior, Education, and Public Health. The session, led by Mr. Pichet Chueamuangphan, the first deputy speaker, was an extraordinary meeting dedicated to considering the 3.78 trillion baht budget draft in its first reading.

According to Thai News Agency, the second day of the budget debate lasted 14 hours, with MPs engaging in extensive discussions. However, as the night progressed, the number of participating MPs from both government and opposition dwindled, leading to a quieter atmosphere. The only notable disruption occurred when Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit responded to points raised by Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn, a party-list MP from the Prachachon Party.

Mr. Pichet adjourned the meeting at 11:05 p.m., scheduling the next session for 9:00 a.m. the following day. The agenda for the third day includes further considerations for seven key ministries: Interior, Education, Social Development, Public Health, Natural Resources and Environment, Culture, and Tourism and Sports.
