Bangkok: The House’s opinion committee has yet to reach a conclusion on Thaksin’s retention of the 14th floor following a lengthy meeting. The committee, tasked with proposing opinions to the council, spent over two hours in discussion without reaching a consensus. The chairman suggested that members reconsider their positions and prepare a summary for Mr. Somsak Thepsuthin, the Minister of Public Health and special president of the council, to be delivered the following day.
According to Thai News Agency, the committee convened for the second time under the agenda related to Section 25 of the Medical Profession Act B.E. 2525, which falls under the purview of the Minister of Public Health. Unlike previous meetings, this session was closed to the media due to the presence of confidential documents. The meeting lasted approximately two and a half hours, after which Mr. Thanakrit Jit-Aree-rat, Assistant Minister to the Ministry of Public Health and a committee member, addressed the press. He explained that the meeting focused on documents regarding the Medical Council’s resolution to discipline three doctors involved with Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra’s treatment on the 14th floor of the Police General Hospital. Each committee member was tasked with individually presenting their opinions. Although the Medical Council has resolved to punish three out of four doctors complained about, the committee members were asked to reconsider and submit their conclusions to Mr. Somsak Thepsuthin the next
day.
Mr. Thanakrit noted that the committee’s opinions were varied, as members reviewed documents and information independently, based on legal and factual considerations. Some members suggested the Medical Council reevaluate certain aspects due to unresolved legal issues. He personally felt the Medical Council’s resolution contained flaws and preferred to await further details the following day.
There was also a concern regarding the committee’s unresponded requests for additional documents from the Medical Council. Colonel Thanakrit commented that, although the absence of additional documents might influence the committee’s deliberations, the committee was still responsible for making decisions based on available information.
