Bangkok: The House’s opinion committee has yet to reach a conclusion on Thaksin’s retention of the 14th floor. The meeting of the committee to propose opinions to the council has not reached a conclusion after more than 2 hours of discussion. The committee has different opinions. The chairman suggested reconsidering and sending a summary to Mr. Somsak Thepsuthin, Minister of Public Health, as the special president of the council tomorrow.
According to Thai News Agency, the committee to propose the opinions of the special president for consideration under Section 25 of the Medical Profession Act B.E. 2525 of the Minister of Public Health has a second meeting agenda. Today’s meeting will not allow the media to enter to take pictures like the previous meeting, citing that there are many important confidential documents.
After the meeting for about 2 and a half hours, Mr. Thanakrit Jit-Aree-rat, Assistant Minister to the Ministry of Public Health, who is one of the committee members, gave a press conference stating that today is the meeting of the chairman of the committee to consider documents regarding the Medical Council’s resolution regarding the punishment of 3 doctors involved in the treatment of Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra, the former prime minister, on the 14th floor of the Police General Hospital. In today’s discussion, each committee member will submit their opinions to the meeting separately. There are 4 doctors who have been complained about and the Medical Council has passed a resolution to punish 3 of them. Today, the chairman asked them to go back and consider further and submit them tomorrow. Each committee member will summarize their opinions and submit them to Mr. Somsak Thepsuthin as the special chairman at 2:00 p.m. Today’s meeting had only 8 committee members, with 2 absent: advisor to the committee, Mr. Chaiw
at Pattanapisansak, and Mr. Narinpong Jinaphak, a committee member.
When asked about the direction of the committee’s opinions today, Mr. Thanakrit said that opinions were quite diverse because each person received documents and information to consider on their own according to the facts and the law. Or some people have additional suggestions to the Medical Council that can be reconsidered because there are some legal issues that are still incorrect.
Personally, I think that the Medical Council’s resolution according to the received documents still has some flaws. I would like to wait for the details tomorrow because it is still in the consideration process.
In the case of the request for additional documents from the Medical Council twice but no response, Colonel Thanakrit said that it was okay because the committee had a duty to consider the information they had and received, but it might have different effects on the committee’s consideration.
