Bangkok: Maris revealed that the ICRC President will join a lecture by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and confirm that Thailand supports and respects international human rights law and is ready to protect humanity.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Maris Sngiampong, Minister of Foreign Affairs, revealed that today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Thai Red Cross Society, organized the 11th "Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn" Lecture on International Humanitarian Law at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously attended the lecture, a ceremony she has graciously attended every time since the first event in 2003. This year's event was honored by the presence of Mrs. Mirjana Sp³ljaric Eger, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), who delivered a lecture titled "Upholding Humanity in Contemporary Warfare."
Mr. Maris also revealed that during bilateral discussions, he expressed his gratitude to the ICRC President for sharing his experience and perspectives on current humanitarian challenges, including the ICRC's humanitarian missions around the world. He emphasized the importance of respecting international human rights and humanitarian law, particularly in times of conflict, and that Thailand would continue to work closely with the ICRC.
Mr. Maris also stated that in today's world, conflict is no longer limited to the battlefield. Information is also being weaponized through online media manipulation and hostile rhetoric, which fosters distrust, dehumanization, and justification for violence. Thailand is committed to upholding and protecting humanitarian principles and the rule of law amid turmoil and conflict in an interconnected but fragile world. Looking ahead, Thailand stands ready to contribute to and advance global initiatives on international humanitarian law.
