Intense Clash in Narathiwat Leaves One Territorial Defense Volunteer Killed

Narathiwat: One security officer was killed in a fierce clash with insurgents during a cordon and search operation in Ja Nae District. On June 1, 2026, at approximately 5:30 AM, a joint special operations unit and the 49th Ranger Regiment Task Force conducted a law enforcement operation, surrounding and searching a suspected house in Moo 4, Ban Rue Po, Dusongnyo Subdistrict, Chanae District, Narathiwat Province. This operation is an extension of the investigation into a group of violent perpetrators believed to be linked to the assassination attempt on a district deputy on April 1, 2026, in Ban Su Khae, Chanae District.

According to Thai News Agency, at around 6:11 AM, while officers were surrounding the area and setting up roadblocks, the suspect attempted to escape. The suspect jumped from the target house and engaged in a gunfight with the officers as he ran through the woods. This resulted in a fierce exchange of gunfire. After the gunfire ceased, Volunteer Ranger Wuttipong Chumchua, 29 years old, was found seriously injured. Affiliated with Task Force 46, Wuttipong was shot in the cheekbone and left chest.

Private First Class Wuttipong sustained serious injuries and had no pulse when found. He was urgently transported to Chana Hospital, where medical personnel attempted CPR. Unfortunately, due to the severity of his wounds, Private First Class Wuttipong passed away later.

Authorities are currently securing the crime scene for forensic investigation and deploying forces to hunt down the suspects, who are believed to still be hiding in the nearby wooded area.
