Bangkok: The Ministry of Interior is advancing its efforts to implement the Cell Broadcast system for disaster management, with an openness to adopting Japanese methodologies to ensure comprehensive coverage for all target groups.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul hosted Hiroyuki Togashi, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan, at the Ministry of Interior. Togashi offered insights into Japan's sophisticated Cell Broadcast warning system, which the Ministry is currently trialing for further development. The Japanese system is noted for its ability to deliver swift notifications tailored to specific target groups, enabling differentiated alerts for people on public transportation versus those outside. This approach is under consideration for adaptation and expansion in Thailand to enhance the effectiveness of disaster warnings.
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation is set to initiate small-scale testing of the system starting today, with plans to fully operationalize the system by July.
