Kantharalak: Kantharalak remains silent for the second day following a military operation along the Thai-Cambodian border. Almost all residents have evacuated from the designated red zones.
According to Thai News Agency, on December 9, 2025, the atmosphere within the Kantaralak municipal area in Sisaket Province was notably subdued. This comes as a result of the ongoing military operations that have prompted nearly 90% of shops, small retail stores, banks, and other businesses to shut down. Only a few residents remain in the area, keeping a close watch on the developing situation.
The previous night, an urgent warning was issued by the Kantharalak District through a LINE group message. This alert was directed at heads of government agencies, local administrative organizations, village headmen, and village security teams, instructing them to evacuate residents immediately from areas impacted by artillery and rocket fire. The warning highlighted the importance of evacuating residents living “below Highway 24,” including those in the municipalities of Kantharalak, Nam Oom, Nong Ya Lat, Krachaeng, Wiang Nuea, Thung Yai, Mueang, Sang Mek (lower), Suan Kluai (lower), and Kut Sala (lower), to safer areas upstream of the highway.
Village defense volunteers have been directed to minimize the number of personnel at their posts, instead positioning themselves in secure, well-constructed bomb shelters. For their safety, they have been instructed not to leave these shelters.
This morning, Kantharalak town remained eerily quiet, with intermittent sounds of explosions and tremors from the military operations still audible across the border. The situation is volatile and requires close monitoring as it continues to develop.
