Pyongyang: Kim Jong-un has described North Korea as a "nuclear state." North Korea's state news agency KCNA reported that Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un stated at a meeting of the Workers' Party's Central Committee held Saturday to Monday that demonstrating the country's status as a fully nuclear-armed nation is the correct and unified way to confidently deal with the volatile and complex international political and military situation.
According to Thai News Agency, the North Korean leader stated that unexpected violence is currently unfolding worldwide, a result of the greed of powerful groups seeking to expand their influence. He also accused the United States of escalating bloodshed in Europe and the Middle East. Furthermore, he alleged that the US and South Korea are jointly making the security situation on the Korean Peninsula more dangerous through their escalating actions and ongoing joint nuclear exercises, with the sole purpose of preparing an attack on North Korea.
Therefore, the North Korean leader ordered a firm expansion and strengthening of its nuclear capabilities, as well as accelerating the accumulation of conventional weapons and speeding up the construction of a 10,000-ton strategic guided missile cruiser. However, the news agency did not provide details on concrete measures regarding future nuclear arsenals.
In addition to security issues, the North Korean ruling party meeting also emphasized plans to accelerate the modernization of the coal industry and the development of mining communities. North Korean leaders described these as strategic priorities. Experts point out that coal remains North Korea's primary energy source, and the plan to upgrade the industry aims to alleviate the country's chronic energy shortage.
