Memories of Princess Bajrakitiyabha: A Glimpse into Her University Days

Bangkok: Remembering Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha when she was a law student, from her fellow classmates. Back in 1997, freshmen at the Faculty of Law, Thammasat University, likely never imagined that they would become "classmates" of Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Debyavadi.

According to Thai News Agency, upon learning that His Royal Highness had been accepted to study for a bachelor's degree at Thammasat University, many students were thrilled at the prospect of studying alongside him. Among his classmates were Associate Professor Thavisak Eu-Amornvanich, Assistant Rector for Legal Affairs, and Associate Professor Dr. Supriya Kaewla-iad, Dean of the Faculty of Law.

The first day of orientation on May 11, 1997, marked an unforgettable moment for Thavisak and Supriya. They were surprised and impressed as Princess Bajrakitiyabha participated in activities like any other student, displaying camaraderie and humility. This approachability continued throughout her time at the university, with no special treatment in the classroom or elsewhere on campus.

Associate Professor Thavisak recounted an experience during a study trip to France, where he interacted closely with Princess Bajrakitiyabha. He remembered her openness and humor, reflecting the approachable nature she maintained throughout her university years. Similarly, Associate Professor Dr. Supriya recalled conversations during various faculty events, where the princess engaged warmly with her peers.

Princess Bajrakitiyabha's dedication to her studies, despite numerous royal duties, left a lasting impression. Graduating with a second-class honors degree, she exemplified effective time management and a commitment to social change through legal knowledge. Her efforts in pushing for the "Bangkok Rules" highlight her dedication to societal betterment, acknowledged by both Thavisak and Supriya.

Associate Professor Thavisak emphasized three lessons learned from the princess: humility, effective time management, and a commitment to social change. These principles, he believes, are crucial for students to emulate. Meanwhile, Associate Professor Dr. Supriya highlighted the princess's role as a lawyer for social causes, using her legal expertise for the benefit of society.

Princess Bajrakitiyabha's approach aligns with Thammasat University's mission to instill in students an awareness of societal importance. Her contributions serve as inspiration for future generations to apply their legal knowledge for the greater good, making her a distinguished alumna of the Faculty of Law.
