Migrant Worker from Chiang Rai Dies Mysteriously in South Korea

Seoul: A migrant worker from Chiang Rai has died mysteriously in South Korea. "Chulaphan" expressed condolences and assured full compensation.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chulaphan Amornvivat, Minister of Labour, revealed details regarding the death of Mr. Wisanu Laechern, a 32-year-old Thai worker. The initial report from the Labour Attach© at the Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul, South Korea, indicated that Mr. Laechern was working as a general industrial worker in Busan on an E9 visa since January 9, 2024. His colleagues found him dead suddenly in his sleep on the morning of June 21, 2026.

Regarding coordination, the Thai Embassy in Seoul is discussing the matter with the Consular Section and is awaiting the autopsy results from the South Korean police before issuing a death certificate. Mr. Wisanu's sister has contacted the Consular Section about repatriating the body to Thailand, and the Consular Section has provided advice and clarification on the details to the family.

Concerning benefits and assistance for the deceased's family, Mr. Chulaphan stated that the Thai Embassy in Seoul is urgently checking with relevant agencies regarding Korean law. Since Mr. Wisanu was a member of the fund to assist Thai workers abroad, the family can prepare the necessary documents to submit to the Department of Employment. The approval of assistance will follow the regulations of the committee. The Ministry of Labour expresses its deepest condolences to Mr. Wisanu Laechern's family and will monitor the progress to provide full assistance in all aspects.
