Bangkok: The Minister of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) is addressing the issue of vulnerable groups being excluded from the "Welfare Card" program. Only 200,000 out of 1 million applications have been approved, and the MSDHS is preparing to collaborate with the Ministry of Interior for further field surveys.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Nikorn Somklang, the Minister of Social Development and Human Security, emphasized the need for an investigation into the reasons why many applicants did not meet the criteria. The MSDHS is working closely with the Ministry of Interior and awaits the Cabinet's decision on the management approach. Officials are set to compile data from the administrative sector, and discussions are ongoing. Disabled and elderly individuals are encouraged to prepare appeals with the necessary information and evidence.
Mr. Nikorn also announced that the Ministry of Social Development and Human Resources will host the Universal Design (UN) Fair at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani on July 24-25. The event, organized in partnership with the Association of Persons with Disabilities of Thailand and Thammasat University, will be inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, Mr. Yotsanu Wongsawat. The fair aims to showcase innovations for all age groups, with a focus on the elderly and those with disabilities. Mr. Nikorn highlighted the importance of the Universal Design Act and community-based awareness campaigns to promote its benefits across Thai society.
