Ministry of Agriculture Advances Water Management Project in Nong Bua Lamphu

Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Agriculture is advancing its efforts to support farmers in Nong Bua Lamphu province by implementing a water management project designed to prepare for potential drought conditions. The initiative aims to assist the agricultural sector through improved water resource management.

According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Mr. Watcharaphol Khaokham, along with his delegation, visited Sriboonruang Wittayakarn School in Muang Mai Subdistrict, Sriboonruang District. The visit was part of a monitoring exercise to assess the progress of agricultural initiatives and gather feedback from local farmers. Mr. Suriyapol Nuchanong, Director-General of the Royal Irrigation Department, and Mr. Songpol Suaysom, Deputy Director-General, also participated in the visit, accompanied by other relevant officials.

The Royal Irrigation Department has put forward a proposal for the Ban Chom Thong sluice gate project, located in Sri Bun Rueang Subdistrict, Sri Bun Rueang District. This project targets the recurring issues of flooding and drought in the upper Lam Phong River basin, Section 2. The initiative aims to enhance water management by enabling effective rainwater drainage during the wet season and storing water for use in the dry season. The project is expected to benefit around 1,000 rai of farmland during the rainy season and an additional 800 rai during the dry season. It will also serve as a water reserve for approximately 436 households across two villages, thereby improving community water security and living standards.

During the visit, the Deputy Minister and his team distributed agricultural inputs and attended an exhibition featuring Nong Bua Lamphu province's agricultural and cooperative achievements. The exhibition highlighted the "Value-Added Agriculture" approach, showcasing processed agricultural products developed with technology and innovation to increase product value, generate income, and strengthen community resilience sustainably.
