Bangkok: The Ministry of Finance has issued a warning to the public about online scams falsely claiming to be associated with the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), luring individuals into investing in gold stocks. These scams pose a risk of financial loss and the compromise of personal information.
According to Thai News Agency, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE) has identified a prominent fake news story concerning online crimes that has garnered significant public attention. The story involves a fraudulent claim that “Hua Seng Heng offers SET50 shares for an average dividend of 532-5,300 baht/day via the Gold M0dern ShareHolders page.” Another widely circulated fake news story involves “PTT celebrating its 45th anniversary by offering a free 200 baht gas credit.” The Ministry has cautioned the public against believing these false reports, highlighting the potential threat to personal information and property.
Ms. Suchada Sang Thanasup, spokesperson for the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, reported that the Anti-Fake News Center of Thailand (AFNC) monitored and documented fake news from October 24-30, 2025. The AFNC identified a total of 1,000,907 messages, with 809 requiring verification. Social listening platforms reported the most messages (792), followed by Line Official (16), and Facebook (1), culminating in 186 total reports. After coordination with relevant agencies, 63 reports were verified. The top 10 most popular fake news stories about online crimes included solicitations to invest in stocks, government services, and refunds from scammers.
The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, in collaboration with the Stock Exchange of Thailand, confirmed that the top-ranked story regarding “Hua Seng Heng offers SET50 shares” is false. The SET clarified that the Gold M0dern ShareHolders page is not authorized to sell shares and is impersonating the SET. The Ministry warns the public to remain vigilant against scams involving online investment opportunities, which often exploit credible agencies and organizations to deceive individuals.
