Bangkok: The Ministry of Transport is engaging in discussions with Grab to improve airport transportation connections, focusing on enhancing convenience and safety for passengers and tourists.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Patarapong Pataraprasit, Deputy Minister of Transport, has initiated dialogues with representatives from Grab Taxi (Thailand) Co., Ltd. to explore potential collaborations with the Department of Airports. The objective is to enhance transportation services and provide a seamless travel experience from airports to various destinations. Mr. Danai Ruangson, Director-General of the Department of Airports, also participated in the discussions.
Mr. Patarapong emphasized the Ministry's commitment to developing transportation systems that facilitate smooth travel, particularly from airports. The discussions with Grab are aimed at exchanging ideas on creating service models that address user needs while integrating public transportation with modern ride-hailing applications efficiently.
Currently, the Department of Airports has designated areas for public transport vehicles, including buses, taxis, and minibuses, at 21 airports nationwide. These areas serve airports that operate commercial flights, enabling convenient and safe passenger transport.
The Deputy Minister of Transport has instructed that collaboration with Grab should prioritize passenger convenience and safety, adhering to relevant laws and regulations. A pilot program will be launched at Udon Thani Airport, Khon Kaen Airport, and Ubon Ratchathani Airport. Mr. Phatarapong also stressed the importance of bus operators registering and complying with the Department of Land Transport regulations before operating at airports.
The Ministry of Transport is dedicated to developing a regional airport connectivity system that is convenient, safe, and efficient, aligning with the demands of digital-era travel. This initiative aims to support tourism and sustainable economic growth in provinces and regions.
