Kuala lumpur: Motorcycle taxi drivers are set to face charges after a delivery rider was assaulted in a recent altercation. The deputy superintendent of Don Mueang Police Station has confirmed that only four motorcycle taxi drivers, as opposed to the initially reported ten, were involved in the attack. Authorities are preparing to summon the individuals for legal proceedings.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred near the entrance to the Thung Song Hong housing estate, under the BTS Keha station on Kamphaeng Phet 6 Road. The 22-year-old delivery rider, identified as Thanagrit, was reportedly assaulted by a group of ten motorcycle taxi drivers. Following the attack, Thanagrit was taken to Vibharam Pakkret Hospital for treatment. In response to the incident, over 100 motorcycle riders surrounded Don Mueang Police Station. Pol. Lt. Col. Woraphat Sukthai, the Deputy Superintendent (Patrol) and Acting Superintendent, negotiated with the crowd and managed to disperse them after reaching an understanding.
At around 11:00 AM, approximately 30 motorcyclists returned to the police station to follow up on the situation. Pol. Lt. Col. Woraphat Sukthai called a representative for discussion and then informed the group to disperse. CCTV footage revealed that there were only four assailants involved. The police are currently coordinating with the BTS station to obtain more footage to aid their investigation. The names of the four perpetrators are known, and they will be summoned to face charges of assault. If medical reports show that Thanagrit's injuries require more than 20 days of treatment, the charges will be upgraded to aggravated assault, and legal proceedings will commence immediately.
Initial investigations indicated that the altercation began as a car accident, with the 70-year-old leader of the motorcycle taxi group attempting to mediate. However, disrespectful remarks from the riders escalated the situation. It has been assured that justice will be served to all involved. Additionally, as a former officer at Bang Sue Police Station and opponent of illegal motorcycle taxi services, Pol. Lt. Col. Woraphat Sukthai has vowed to continue his efforts to eliminate illegal operations in the Don Mueang area. After the discussion, the group of riders expressed satisfaction with the explanation provided and subsequently dispersed.
