Bangkok: A Member of Parliament used offensive language in the middle of a session after his microphone was turned off by the chairman, disrupting the debate on a significant resolution. The incident took place during a discussion on the People's Democratic Reform Committee's resolution regarding amendments to the Clean Air Act. The chairman's action angered the Deputy Speaker, who threatened to adjourn the meeting due to the disrespectful language used, insisting that the Orange Party (Pheu Thai Party) take full responsibility. Nattawut intervened to calm the situation, allowing the session to continue.
According to Thai News Agency, the House of Representatives, chaired by Ms. Mallika Chiraphanwanich, First Deputy Speaker, convened at 5:00 PM to deliberate on the draft Clean Air Management Act. This bill, previously amended by the Senate, was back in the House for further consideration. Mr. Pasin Pitutecha, Ms. Pimphattra Wichaikul, and Mr. Phatarapong Leelaphat, representing different parties, had already voiced their support for the original bill but expressed disagreement with the Senate's amendments. A joint special committee was proposed to thoroughly review and finalize the bill.
Mr. Phatarapong, during his speech, criticized the Senate report, questioning the Senate's alignment and their handling of the law meant to address people's issues. However, Ms. Mallika interrupted by turning off his microphone, inviting Mr. Chanathip Supasiri to continue instead. This led Mr. Phatthapong to express his frustration with profanity, to which Ms. Mallika responded by criticizing the impolite language and demanding retraction.
The session continued with Mr. Nattawut Buapratum urging for resolution and continuation of the meeting. Ms. Mallika emphasized the need for all members to take responsibility for their actions, condemning the use of inappropriate language. Mr. Phatarapong eventually apologized and retracted his request, allowing the session to proceed smoothly with Mr. Chanathip's contribution.
